Raised and trained to fight out of the mining town of Minersville, PA, Jon Murphy grew up leading an atypical life. Coming from a good family and excelling in athletics while growing up, he attended the University of Syracuse on a football scholarship, playing on the same team as Eagles' QB Donovan McNabb. However, Jon's life would take a dark turn in college when he began to question his desire to play football and left school early.

Jon returned to the college grid-iron field when he enrolled to Kutztown University, a Division II school in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, where he earned All-American honors as a Linebacker/Defensive End. His prowess on the field earned him tryouts with many NFL teams and time in the Arena Football League, but he didn't find his true passion on the field.

After bouncing around, indecisive of a career in football, Jon started focusing more of his time and attention toward martial arts. Inspired by Bruce Lee movies and books as a kid and quickly becoming a martial arts fan from early-childhood, Jon first began studying Tae Kwon Do. Under good friend and trainer Jeff Walcott, Jon started training in Jiu-Jitsu in 1994.

Jon turned pro in MMA in 2006 after compiling a perfect 5-0 amateur record and winning the Pennsylvania State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Boxing championship in 2004, but his life took a another dark turn soon after his debut...

After struggling for a few years with drug and alcohol abuse, Jon admitted himself into his first drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, the first of three he would enter in three years. Struggling to stay on the right path and trying to do it on his own, he found himself at the Caron Treatment Center for Drug and Alcohol Abuse in Wernersville, PA in May 2009. It was here that Jon states that he reconnected with the One Power that took away all the hurt and pain, the One Power who could show him true forgiveness - Jon turned his will and life over to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

"Years and years of battling demons that I had no chance of fighting on my own, and the whole time Christ was there with arms wide open, waiting for me to turn it over and let Him win the battle for me, and that He has..."

With a new-found faith and perspective, Jon has renewed his passion for mixed martial arts. He now trains with UFC veteran Tim Boetsch at Barbarian Combat Sports in Sunbury, PA. On Dec. 17, 2009 Jon made a successful return to the cage, his first fight in over a year and a half. For the second time in his career, Jon beat Dave Huckaba in this much-anticipated rematch via submission (North-South choke) in the first round of the fight at the King of the Cage: Fight 4 Hope event, bringing his record to 7-3. Currently under contract with King of the Cage, Jon is also a star of the hit reality show Bully Beatdown which airs on MTV.
